Station Brae Allotments
A fine view down Station Brae showing the allotments on the left, dating probably from the 1950s. The allotments had been created early in World War II as part of the government’s Dig for Victory campaign. Briefly, in the late 1920s, this ground had been the site of Newport’s only putting green, but the ground had then become increasingly neglected until put to its wartime use. The allotments were maintained until the ground was converted to housing in the late 1960s.
