Latest News – April 2024

AGM

Date for your diary is Tuesday 30th April, 7.30 pm in the small Blyth Hall. This will be our AGM. However as usual we will get through the business part of the evening as quickly as possible and move on to the more entertaining part! This year our speaker will be David Annand. David lives in Kilmany and is a renowned sculptor, both nationally and internationally. He is highly sought after for portraits and for commemorative sculptures in public places, and is a member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors. You will no doubt be familiar with some of his local works such as the statue of Jim Clark at Kilmany and the leaping deer at the Technology Park in Dundee.

STOP PRESS!

Our book, Lest We Forget, the follow-up to our 2022 Poppy Project, has been chosen as Winner of the Alan Ball Award for Best Community History Project publication 2023. This is a national (UK) award so we are extremely proud. (Google Alan Ball Awards for more information.)
Here is what the judges thought of our book/project.
I am delighted to let you know that Lest We Forget has been awarded the Winner of the Alan Ball Award for Best Community History Project publication 2023. There were a number of strong entries, but the judges felt that this was a brilliantly researched and written publication that had arisen out of a very special project, which clearly is the result of enthusiastic community engagement, notably including young people. The project provides a creative way in which people can learn about the sacrifices made by those members of the Newport community during World War 1 and 2, and how this has impacted upon the burgh of Newport on Tay and its heritage. It provides an important record and you should all be proud of what you have achieved.
We are thrilled!
Copies of the book are still available from our online shop.

Our online shop

Our latest book ‘Lest we forget’ is now available from our online shop. It contains all the information and more from our hugely moving and well-received poppy project of 2022. You will also find note cards, 2024 calendars and our other books. We can post these to you with a small charge for P&P, or deliver them free of charge in Newport and Wormit. They will also be available at our future events.

Our book ‘Houses with a History’ was produced in response to the huge demand for it at our Houses with a History exhibition and is full of fascinating facts about 79 houses in Newport and Wormit. It has proved so popular that it has sold out! We do however have some ‘seconds’, not quite perfect copies, available through our online shop at the reduced price of £6.50.
