Memories of Wormit Tennis Club
Written by Ena Scott (Gleig) in 1989.
Wormit Lawn Tennis Club was always very popular. Gradually it changed to blaze courts. Unfortunately the 2nd World War took its toll and young men and women were called upon to join the forces. The club folded completely despite many efforts to keep it going and it was not until 1952 that the club resumed. This was thanks to the generosity of several anonymous donors and the great success of a fete opened by the Earl of Dundee, Laird of Birkhill who had just managed to reclaim his title after many years. Now they are all weather courts and play can be all year round. Wormit has always made its name in the Midland division and the club has some very outstanding juniors at present (1989).
