King Haakon's En Suite
During World War II King Haakon of Norway visited the Norwegian forces based at Woodhaven three times. At least once he was accommodated at Dunvarlich on Riverside Road, one of several houses in Newport that were used for military purposes during the war. Prior to that visit a period en suite from the 1930s was decorated with marine motifs to remind him of home. These decorations and the en suite remain intact today as can be seen in this set of photographs.
