Wormit Foundry
The Wormit Foundry on Bay Road. The foundry was established half-way through construction of the first rail bridge when the column design was changed from solid brick to lattice cast iron. In the public inquiry which followed the disaster, it was found that there were serious flaws in the standard of work carried out at the foundry. The foundry supplied the columns but not the girders.
