Walking on West Road in Wartime
Einar Garnes
A happy group on West Road. The gentleman’s cycling outfit is about as far removed from today’s kit as can be imagined. Meanwhile, the two ladies comply with wartime fashion rules of single-breasted coats and jackets. No fabric must be wasted, and so the skirt in the middle is fairly short and has a pleat, but a very narrow one. Her lapels are surprisingly wide: there were rules about the maximum width for lapels.
