  • Hello Mark. Thanks for your comment. I see your Great great grandfather in the 1901 census along with his wife Jemima and three wee boys. At that time the joinery business was still run by Willie Rankine.s grandfather, William Buist. Willie R (aged 11 in 1901) was staying there with his grandparents since his mother had died. There’s every chance your Gr Gr grand did work with W Buist as he is so close. Certainly he seems to have employed several men in his workshop and out on building sites.

  • My Great-great grandfather David McLeod lived in one of the cottages at Woodhaven just along from the old workshop from c. 1900 to 1903 and worked as a joiner. I wonder if he possibly worked for W. Rankine.
