Newport Junior Secondary School Cup for Scratch Events

Newport Junior Secondary School. Championship Cup for Scratch Events. Presented by Newport Amateur F C June 1940. From 1960 onwards Newport School catered for primary pupils only and so pupils in P6 and P7 competed for the cup which was awarded to the overall sports champion. David Thorne, who won the cup in both P6 (joint) and P7 (outright), recalls taking part in the short sprint (the width of Windmill Park), the long sprint, the high jump and the football dribble.

  • this cup look a lot like the one given to the sports champions at newport school? ( which i won in 1975 and 1976!). would be great to see the other side to see the engravings of the winners to confirm.
