East Station House, Station Brae

The Newport railway connecting Tayport, Newport and Wormit to the new railway bridge opened in the summer of 1879 and the station and station house dates from then. The first station master was James Duncan and he lived here with his family of ten children. When he arrived in 1879 the station house was surrounded by fields. This was the time of the building boom in Newport and he recalled that “for years, trainload after trainload of bricks, stones, timber and other building materials arrived every week”.

After Closure

After the station closed in 1969 the house was unoccupied for several years and became very dilapidated. Fortunately it was then restored and it is still very recognisable as the station house, with its white station fence still intact.
