Tayfield North Lodge, High Road

Tayfield Estate dates from 1789 when the first John Berry bought the land and built his house here. He and his son William were responsible for the early planning and landscaping of the grounds around Tayfield House. Under William’s guidance the north and south drives were laid out and the lodges built.

Our picture shows the North Lodge on the High Road, which dates from 1830. The North Lodge was to the design of architect James Gillespie Graham, known for projects such as Moray Place in Edinburgh, and more locally for Cupar County Buildings and Crawford Priory near Cupar. This Gothic style is quite different from  the more restrained Georgian seen on the South Lodge.
