This row of houses making up The Terrace was built between 1840 and 1854 by three brothers, David, John and George Just. Until around 1960 there were two further buildings to the east of the Terrace, where the new houses now stand. These two buildings, called River House and Just’s Land, were of a different design but they were also referred to as part of the Terrace (see below).
Most of the houses along this stretch of West Road were built by members of the Just family, the first Thomas Just having bought all the land in 1786.
