Broadhaugh, 44-46 West Road
Broadhaugh was built in 1828 for Adam Symon, a Dundee industrialist. Not a lot is known about the earlier occupants but for much of the 20th century it was owned by the Twidle family. They were based in Cornwall but certainly lived in at least part of the building some of the time. The property was divided in two in the 1930s but it has now been restored to one house.
During World War II an air raid shelter was positioned in Broadhaugh garden close to West Road. The shelter was still there in the 1960s.
Our lower photograph shows a very different view of Broadhaugh from the river.
