Tayfield South Lodge, Cupar road

Tayfield Estate dates from 1789 when the first John Berry bought the land and built his house here. He and his son William were responsible for the early planning and landscaping of the grounds around Tayfield House. Under William’s guidance the north and south drives were laid out and the lodges built.

Our picture above of the South Lodge on Cupar Road, which dates from 1830, shows snow ploughing operations in the early 1900s. The lodge was possibly designed by George Smith, the architect responsible for the extensive 1830 alterations to Tayfield House.
