59 Cupar Road

Wanderlust

The artist Alan Robb lived for many years at 59 Cupar Road where he had his studio. Although born in Glasgow in 1946, Alan was an Aberdonian where he attended Robert Gordon’s college. He studied at Gray’s School of Art in the city before completing his art training at the Royal College of Art in London. He taught at Oundle School in Peterborough, Crawford School of Art in Cork and Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art where he became Head of the School and Professor of Fine Art. He was elected a member of the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolours Scotland (RSW) and the Royal Scottish Academy of Art and Architecture (RSA).

Awards and Recognition

Alan’s many awards include 1st prize in the Irish Open Exhibition of Visual Arts and The Maude Gemmell Hutchison prize from the RSA. He exhibited widely throughout the UK and in Ireland and abroad. His work appears in many private and public collections including those of the McManus Gallery in Dundee, Aberdeen Art Gallery,  the Hunterian at Glasgow University, the Royal College of Art in London, the collection of HRH Duke of Edinburgh and in collections in Australia, Brazil, France and United States.

Alan died in 2020.
