55 Cupar Road

The artist Neil Dallas Brown lived at 55 Cupar Road, where he also had his studio. Born in Elgin in 1938, he studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee and at the Royal Academy School in London. He taught at Bell Baxter High School in Cupar and lectured at Duncan of Jordanstone and Glasgow School of Art. He was also a visiting lecturer at Parsons School of Design, New York; Maryland Institute of Art, Baltimore; Ulster Polytechnic, Belfast and Loughborough College of Art and Design.

Recognition

He was the recipient of many major awards and travelling bursaries and in 1970 was the major prizewinner at the Arts Council of Northern Ireland Open Painting competition selected by an international jury. Throughout his career Neil participated in many group and solo shows.His works are held in major collections including the National Gallery of Scotland, Aberdeen Art Gallery, City Art Centre, Edinburgh, the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, Museum of Contemporary Art in Skopje, North Macedonia (formerly Yugoslavia), as well as many private collections in the UK and abroad.

Neil died in St Andrews in 2003.
