The Phoenix Drama Group gave two performances of Not Now Darling in the Blyth Hall. In the early 1970s the Blythe Players and the Green Room Club had combined to form the Phoenix Drama Group. The group presented their shows in the Blyth Hall and the West Hall, Wormit.

The Scaffies' Ball was one of the highlights of the Newport social calendar! An annual pub get-together in the Gauldry Arms between burgh surveyor Jack Morton and the scaffies, started around 1966, eventually developed into the Scaffies' Ball. Photograph is from 1978, ticket from 1977.
Since 1879 Newport School has fulfilled the educational needs of the village, first on the site in Blyth Street, then from 1977 on the outskirts of the village on the Cupar Road.
