Woodhaven Terrace

The line of houses to the rear of Woodhaven Farm is Woodhaven Terrace. Today there are 8 houses, four up and four down, but in its early years the westerly section was single storeyed. It was converted to double storey in 1878 to house foundry workers who worked in the Wormit foundry, casting the iron supporting pillars of the old Tay rail bridge.

Miss Sim’s Shop

The first house in the Terrace was always a shop, latterly called the Shopping Basket. From 1914 until 1931 the shop was tenanted by Miss Sim. Our lower picture shows Miss Sim outside the shop with Willie Rankine who lived in the cottage across the road, now demolished. Miss Sim’s shop was always a convenient and popular stop for the boys on the Mars training ship on the odd occasions when they had a few pennies to spend.
