Woodhaven Farm

Woodhaven Farm dates back well over 200 years and like the other older properties at Woodhaven it was part of St Fort estate.  For much of the 20th century it was tenanted by the Gleig family, father Stewart, then Mrs Stewart Gleig, then son Norman. In the 19th century various members and branches of the Rhind family were tenants.

Until the middle of the 19th century there was a bakehouse and a brewery attached to the farm, both of which supplied the Woodhaven Inn over the main road.

The garden shed in the lower photograph was built in 1951 as a sanatorium for farmer Norman when he developed tuberculosis. He was advised to sit in the shed for several hours each day, resting in the fresh air. The treatment must have worked as he lived on until 1978.
