Corner of our Archive Room in Blyth Hall

The Newport History Group was set up in 2016 following the fifth very successful local history exhibition in the Blyth Hall.  The group has amassed a digital archive which you can see here, and a physical archive which is housed in the Blyth Hall. Following much work over the last two years, we are now in a position to invite people to visit the Blyth Hall archive – you can arrange a visit by emailing us at [email protected]

Newport History Group hosts a programme of afternoon or evening lectures throughout the year. Past topics have included The NE Fife Postal Service; The Tay Bridge Disaster; Early Development of Newport; Fife Milestones; Ferries Across the Tay; Postcards of NE Fife; Local Artists. We also organise guided walks, historical boat trips, visits and pop-up exhibitions. Membership is free – if you would like to know more, please get in touch.

Our home page is regularly updated with details of all our planned activities and events.

The History Group and website are managed by a small voluntary elected committee. The current members are Mairi Shiels, Chair; Sandra Charles, Secretary and Webmaster; Joan Mitchell, Treasurer; Linda Black and Andy Gillies. Tessa Durham, who died in June 2024, was a hardworking and much valued member of the committee from the History Group’s inception.
Currently, in 2026, we have about 410 members.
