Introducing this website

This website was created and is maintained by Newport History Group. On it you can browse through photos, memories, stories and historical information about Newport-on-Tay, Wormit and the surrounding area. It is a work in progress, and more material will be added as it becomes available. Unfortunately, in 2020, some of our archive has been inaccessible to us because of Covid-19 restrictions, but it is hoped that this situation will improve before too long.

Without the support and generosity of very many individuals and organisations in the local community and from further afield, this project would not have come about, and we would like to express our warmest thanks to them all. Among them are:

The many people who loaned or donated material for our exhibition in 2016, which became the foundation of the archive section of the website, and all those photographers who have, unknown to us and to themselves, provided over many years the original images in our archive.

Ian Lindsay, who has always been so generous in allowing us to access his postcard collection for all our projects. Many of his images are on this site.

Catherine Jones and Dawn White, who photographed all 2000+ exhibits, and Bill Taylor who has created artwork for us.

Andrew Dowsey, Fife Archivist, and Jan Merchant, Dundee University Archivist, who gave us helpful guidance and advice.

Fife Council, who have given us space in the Blyth Hall for our collection.

Alasdair and Iain Mitchell, and Martin and Allan Shiels, who gave us technical support, and Willie McCool of Digital Fife who gave us helpful information.

D C Thomson, who gave us permission to use photographs from its archive.

D C Thomson Charitable Trust, Leng Charitable Trust, North Fife Rotary, Abertay Historical Society, and many individuals for generous financial support.

And our volunteers, whose work, we hope, will continue.
