Two photographs at Wormit Boating Club of the club flag and the Norwegian flag both flying at half mast to acknowledge the death of Sandy Rankine on 9 December 2008. A newspaper cutting describing one man's memories of playing at Wormit Golf Club before World War II.
An explanation of the origins of Wormit Boating Club. Note that the club moved to Woodhaven in 1971, with the new clubhouse being built the following year.
Rather blurred views of a well attended event at Woodhaven pier. In the early 1930s, after the Mars training ship had left, Wormit Boating Club held some regattas here. For the Boating club, the Mars sheds and pier at Woodhaven would have been ideal for their purposes - plenty space for spectators at events such ...
There was always someone messing about with boats down at the clubhouse under the bridge. Railway bridge can be seen in background on left. Late 1940s. Wormit Boating Club was based here until 1969 when they moved to Woodhaven pier.
Wormit Boating Club was always a great place to socialise. These two photographs are from the late 1940s.
The remains of the old Wormit Boating Club boathouse and their slipway. The club moved their base to Woodhaven in 1969, after which the boathouse here gradually fell into disrepair. In its heyday it was the centre of much water-based activity. This photograph probably dates from 1990s.
Lovely tennis group, actually a team from Dundee High School, but in the centre is team captain Isobel Guttridge. The Guttridge family lived in Kilnburn and were a well known tennis playing family, with other members of the family, Ken, Ron and Florence, also appearing in our archive.

A rare old photograph of Angie Livingstone's grandfather, later plumber Jack Barlow, on his daily swim with his dog Billy, from the old pier to Big Rock. Would love to know who took the photograph. Jack was born in 1906 so this probably dates from 1920s.

To celebrate their 10th anniversary as a youth club, the Rio held a week of activities. They included the women's football match at Waterstone Crook.
Such a shame that this newspaper photograph is not in better condition. It shows a football match out in the river on the sandbank, where both football and cricket matches were regular occurrences in the past. The match is between a Dundee team, possibly the Corinthians, and a Wormit team. Eric Gray in the centre ...
