Robertson Rest Home, 7, 8, 8a Beechwood Terrace West

7 and 8 Beechwood Terrace were built in the 1880s as two separate homes, but from 1947 until 2008 they were the Robertson Rest Home. From around 1900 number 7 was occupied by Robert Robertson and his wife and it was then called Largo Villa. Robert had been born in Largo and came from a family of grocers. By the time he was living in Newport he was running a successful grocery business in Perth Road, Dundee.

Robert and Mary had no children and when he died in 1946, already a widower, he left the house to the Dundee Baptist Church to be used as a Rest Home. By 1950 the adjoining property at number 8, Homeleigh, had also been acquired. Once combined, the building operated as the Robertson Rest Home until 2008, after which the property was returned to two houses.

An early 1900s view of Largo Villa with presumably Robert and Mary Robertson enjoying their garden.
