Wartime Wedding Group 1944 wartime wedding group at rear of Blyth Hall. It was the wedding of Gladys Jack who lived in Struan Street. She married Jon Roe, one of the Norwegians based at Woodhaven. Marguerite Fairweather is in Land Girl uniform centre front. End of War Fancy Dress Parade Fancy dress parade in Newport High Street as part of the victory celebrations at the end of WW2. It was probably very soon after the end of the war - possibly VE Day. Note the absence of male onlookers. Ron Caird is the young cowboy. There was also a Newport Home Guard based in the ARP (Air Raid Precautions) building in King Street. They drilled and practised in Windmill Park under the leadership of Alex. Lowson.
