The estate originally had few trees, but the first John Berry started a careful tree planting programme, which successive generations have continued to this day. Den Cottages, Tayfield The Den Cottages were in an idyllic setting on the edge of the wooded area towards Kirk Road, and were the subject of many picture postcards. They were noted for their attractive and productive gardens. They are sadly now derelict. Tayfield Bee House This is a Victorian bee house, beautifully restored in 2020. It is one of only five known in Scotland, and probably the only wooden one. It has now been listed as a building of historical importance. It is believed to have been brought to Tayfield by boat around 1850. The actual hives were on shelves ...
