These members of 1st Newport Boys' Brigade were drafted into the army. They helped to form a troop of hussars in The Gipsy Baron by Johann Strauss, which was performed in 1979 by the Thomson-Leng Musical Society in the Whitehall Theatre, Dundee.

In 1969 two boys in the 1st Newport Boys' Brigade Company were awarded Queen's Badges, the top honour in the organisation. On the left is Tom Murray and on the right, Marshall Bowman.
