World War II Emergency Fife Evacuation Plan
Rather an alarming map showing the routes that civilians should follow in the event of a German invasion in World War II. From Newport and Wormit we should head to Gauldry and along the river to Newburgh. Invasion along the Fife coast, or indeed anywhere on the Scottish east coast, was quite possible for the Germans as they could use occupied Norway as a launch ground. Fortunately the plan illustrated on the map was never implemented as the word Cancelled shows very clearly. There is still however plenty evidence today of the preparations for that possible attack in the concrete defences along Fife beaches.
