Ferry B L Nairn
Lovely image of the B L Nairn. There seems to be some sort of activity going on at the front of the boat – we believe this may have been the B L Nairn being towed away for scrap. The B L Nairn was in operation from 1929 until 1966.

Thanks Ken. That explains the extra activity there. Perhaps they are hitching it up. That’s a sad picture then.
According to the Ship Nostalgia site this photograph is of the B.L.Nairn being taken in tow to go to the breakers in Blyth. It was possible to cross from Newport to Dundee and back ticketless a fact that was of interest to impecunious boys who thought that looking through the widows into the engine room was one of the most beautiful sights in the world.
