Blyth Hall: Drawing of Interior 1920s
The Blyth Hall in the 1920s. The drawing was produced to demonstrate the paint shades that would be used in redecoration! However it’s much more interesting for us now as it shows off the magnificent roof that was hidden with a false ceiling in 1974. Note also the ornate plaster-work around every window, which is now very much reduced. Perhaps the most noticeable change is around the stage. On either side are stairways up to the small hall, hidden in their panelled and balustraded enclosures. Mrs Blyth Martin’s sculpture has a place of prominence above the stage, which itself has been much enlarged. Such a pity there isn’t also a view looking in opposite direction, which would show off the gallery that was also removed in 1974.
